The Endless Garden
created by Anna Chan
inspired by images of micro-scaled living things
A Speaking Scenery
As a chemist, my drawings are experimental results of mixing images of micro-scaled living things for creating structures with new symbolic meanings. My ultimate goal is to invent my own “visual” language.
This painting is called One Autumn Night. The background is created by mixing microscopic images of mold (i.e. fungi as shown above with its zoom-in microscopic images on the right) and insects legs (as shown below with its zoom-in microscopic images on the right) to represent fear and the strength to emerge from darkness.
A Growing Landscape
Similar to every chemical reactions where reaction products continue to interact with the environment, I consider my creation something has its own life. Plants and landscape were created with repeating strokes, patterns and structures, representing reproduction that every life forms perform.
Living things reproduce
I emphasize the living property of the landscape by extending it using paper art technique including pop-up art and knitting. That becomes an endless garden and I am the gardener.
An Endless Garden
Postman in the Endless Garden
People are isolated planets. The isolation makes our universe a cold space. In my imagination, the endless garden extends beyond canvases to every single planets which create pathways so that the little postman from my drawings, Ann, can come to your planet and deliver you the message from my works. I believe the message is part of your long-lost mail.
